2024 *Love* Gamay
Torquay VIC
On the nose the smell of Gamay hits like an old friend, Gamay has more than just bubblegum as an identity marker. Gamay smells and tastes like the exact point in which joy and nobility meet, it’s pure mastery when done right. Ripe cherries, the smell of iron lifted by a rain shower off the buckshot rocks, sour tang from crushed shells and salty limestone, wilted rose petals in my pocket all day and a greenness that smells like whole bunch although it was 100% de-stemmed, is the body of the Sémillon vine still having an influence?
The taste of the wine is pure nostalgia met with relief, it tastes like Gamay, it tastes like her birthplace in a new light. Ripe cherry, cassis, iron, bruised vine leaf, yakult with a sharp high tone of tartness derived from the limestone pulled into the fruit as though it was sucking the last bit of a margarita on a hot day through a straw, sounds and all.
