2024 *Knife Edge* Shiraz
Great Western VIC
If the Grampians didn’t exist, I would never have made Shiraz. As the years roll by and I start to understand my place in wine, I tell myself constantly to craft only from my truth and my soul. Shiraz has had a big moment in the Australian wine landscape and as that star begins to fade maybe there is more of a reason than ever to fight for it. I sometimes flirt with the idea of letting this grape go, but I’m pulled back in when I see the variety hold strong to its Great Western DNA like this fruit does. Hadyn and Lucy Black have a site where they grow Shiraz that is unique and yet so familier in a good way. Their vineyard captures all the flavours of purple that the Grampians delivers so well, yet each time I make wine with their fruit I see an expression that is new and exciting.
