I never intended to make rose a yearly cuvee, but when picking this Cinsault, I quickly realised she was no table red. I quote my mentor Pierre Marie Chermette when he said in the vineyard, “Zis is for rose, yes my daughter?”. Great winemakers change trajectory in the moment, when they witness that initial ideas do not always fit their reality. I am calling this wine ‘Shades’, because although my favourite shade of this wine is intense and rich, there are many different ways to celebrate the kaleidoscope of rosé.
